Burlington Soccer League sponsored team advances to Cup Final
September 5, 2009
Oakville Fine Homes soccer team, sponsored by the Burlington Soccer League and Oakville Fine
Homes, has advanced to the final of the 2009 Ontario Masters Cup.
The Oakville Fine Homes team is made up of players from a number of BSL teams:
From Gator Ted's: Dino Perri, Carmine Issacco (keepers), Steve Ottman,
Hunter Madeley and George Sousa.
From Spurs: Steve ''spud'' Brockbank and Lee Davison.
From Vipers I: Niko Zrno.
From Colts: Chico Rodrigues, Pat Brodie, Cam Walker, Dino Lopez, Alan
Darragh and Ray Wark
The team is coached by Craig Russell, Alan Hughes and Kevin Maven (colts)

The Journey to the final
Round 1: Oakville Masters were away to Sarnia Azzurri where we had to battle
hard on a terrible field and come behind twice to eventually come away with
a 5-2 victory with the goals coming from Hunter Madeley, Peyvand Mossavat,
Alan Darragh and 2 from Ryan Gamble.
Round 2: Home to Thornhill United at twin arenas in Erin Mills in a tougher
game than in Round one. 3-0 at half time with goals from Hunter Madeley,
George Sousa and Cam Walker and it looked as if we were cruising easily into
the next round. Thornhill came out fighting in the second half bringing the
score to 3-1 about an hour in to the game with a nicely worked goal that
caught us off guard and they threatened to come back into it for a while and
despite the pressure couldn't find a way through for a second goal. Oakville
Masters sealed the game with a 4th goal five minutes from time - another
cracker from Ryan gamble for a final score of 4-1.
Semi Final: Saturday August 29th at Birchmount stadium against a fancied
Hamilton FC Republika Srpriska who made it to the semis with some decent
results against good opposition. Both teams could have had 2 goals each in
the first twenty minutes or so with Oakville Masters squandering a couple of
good scoring chances and with Oakville keeper making two spectacular saves
to keep the scores level. Soon after this spell an Oakville player was
brought down in the box for a penalty, which was easily converted for 1 - 0
lead. Oakville scored another to make it 2-0 at the half which put the
confidence levels up. The second half flew by and Oakville scored another
two to put the game beyond the Serbians reach. Oakville goals were scored by
Hunter Madeley (3) and George Sousa.
The Ontario Cup 2009 Masters Final between Oakville Fine Homes and Markham
Lightning (current Champions) will be played on Saturday September 12th at
8pm at the
Ontario Soccer Centre
in Woodbridge. Come out and support your
colleagues form the BSL in this momentous match.
